After the success of the Workshop Kitchen & Bar restaurant in Palm Springs, the client requested a design in the same vein as the original restaurant for his new opening in Los Angeles. The given site, follows the same lines as the original, with a concrete floor, brick walls and a wood frame ceiling. The project aims to keep the elegance of the original restaurant, while bringing to this new location its own personality. The 13 feet tall concrete booths (8) shaped as cocoons frame a central communal banquette acting as a public dining area, in contrast with the more intimate setting provided by the cocoons.
Both ends of the perspective created by the alignement of the cocoons are used for a different dining experience. Towards the entrance, the concrete bar serves as a welcoming element, while on the other end the open kitchen counter serves as focus for the space.
Additionally, a mezzanine on top of the open kitchen allows around 20 guests to dine with a view of the cocoons from above.
