The Yacht Club is a key luxury destination in the Marasi Bay Marina, providing an expansive, high end and favorite outdoor landscaped leisure space that can be used throughout most of the months of the year in Dubai’s climate. It’s prime location in front of the Lana Dorchester Collection in Business Bay and adjacent to the new Marina Yacht Club adds an exciting element to the exclusive bay area that will attract guests from the hotel and residents from across Dubai’s Downtown areas. Not only does its design explore an innovative and glamorous solution to expanding the city’s greenery, but its unique shape is the result of extensive sustainability and climate analysis, especially in terms of sun and shade pattern studies, to ensure the most optimal and unique beach experience.
Guests walk onto the Island via the existing Marasi Bay promenade and the design’s new bridge that extends 75m into the marina. A reception kiosk is located at the entry point of the island, designed to direct visitors onto Dubai’s new downtown artificial archipelago. The two main components of the Yacht Club are a floating fully fledged outdoor beach club, and high-end indoor restaurant and bar. The beach club was created to feel as organic as possible with a softly sloping sand bank that guides guests in the artistic and expansive infinity pool, wrapping around the entire island edge. The Yacht Club is the ideal intimate sunset destination in the heart of the city.
The Yacht Club will offer a mesmerizing urban beach side experience. It accommodates various settings ranging from exclusive private cabanas to semi-public spaces such as loungers and social areas, activating the bay with a lively leisure space for residents in Dubai.
INNOVATION, SUSTAINABILITY & DUBAI 2040
The project was taken on as a unique opportunity to implement the Dubai 2040 vision goals and transform the Marasi Marina into a luxury community among its existing central and luxurious landmarks. The island’s design includes the addition of a High-end Beach Club, and an extension of the promenade to host cultural activities, family spaces, sports parkours, and event areas within the expanded development. SOMA’s The _____ Island design applies goals that would pave the way to the achievement of an avant-garde and sustainable district within the city of Dubai such as the creation of:
A Recognized Landmark
A Food and Beverage Destination
Recreational Outdoor Areas
Pedestrian Connectivity
Luxury Exclusive Destination
In addition, the project aligns with Dubai’s 2040 ambition of becoming a 20-minute city, where residents can access their daily needs and favorite destinations within 20 minutes by foot or bicycle. Active mobility is one of the most critical components in creating healthy livable cities. As such, urban mobility is a key priority in this major activation and extension of the existing promenade on the Business Bay Canal. The landmark will allow for a shift from the primary vehicular mode of transportation in the city by bringing several favorite diversified destinations within walking distance. The promenade’s activation will not only directly improve pedestrian activity from the neighboring buildings but also encourage its use for other outdoor activities through the implementation of better social infrastructure and facilities.
The Yacht Club’s design started with extensive environmental study of the existing Marina. Its unique shape is the result of in depth parametric iterative analysis, allowing it to improve water flow and quality by reducing the stagnation effect of the existing Marina’s bottle neck shape and through maintenance of Island surrounding waters. Landscaped green spaces on the Island allow for filtration of air quality for an overall improved outdoor environment within the city. The cornerstone of the Yacht Club is to implement enjoyable outdoor areas all year long. It will become an urban center where multiple neighborhoods can enjoy the unique set of amenities, breathtaking greenery, and leisure areas of the highest quality.
